French Songwriting
Workshops
SATURDAY, FEB 13th and 20th
2-4pm PST / 5-7pm EST
You want to dive into two different eras of French music? You like poetry? You want to be swayed by words transporting you to the late sixties Paris of Jacques Dutronc or discover surrealism writing through Alain Bashung? You also want to take a stab at rewriting a French song?
Our French Songwriting workshop is for you! A laboratory with live music and lyrical commentary where you will be able to craft your very own piece of a French classic.
Led by our multi-talented teacher and musician Keveen and his friend Vincent, this workshop will be conducted over 2 Saturdays. During the first session, you will analyse, translate and comment on two classic French songs. Your homework before the next week will be to rewrite a verse (and/or a chorus) with your own words and present it to the group the next Saturday.
Singing will not be mandatory! Keveen and Vincent will be playing the songs live to help you declaiming your words out loud.
Il est cinq heures, Paris s’éveille, by Jacques Dutronc (1968 – listen to the song here)
La nuit je mens, by Alain Bashung (1998 – listen to the song here)
