In this monthly Book Club, open to all levels of French, we will read books about French culture and history, or written by Francophone authors. In an effort to be accessible to Francophiles of all levels, the books chosen will be written/translated in English. However, expect the discussion to be both in English and French, as a way for you to learn new vocabulary related to literature and to the French language and culture.
This month we are reading L’étranger (The Stranger) by Albert Camus.
L’Étranger is a 1942 novel by French author Albert Camus. Its theme and outlook are often cited as examples of Camus’s philosophy, absurdism coupled with that of existentialism, though Camus personally rejected the latter label.
This book club is led by Coucou’s intern, Cassidy, and meets on the first Thursday of each month, 5:00-6:30pm (CDT).
Please note that our Book Club will meet online via Zoom for the time being.
Free event. RSVP by emailing us at minneapolis@coucoufrenchclasses.com and we will send you a link to join the meeting online.
Consider getting the book from Des Livres et Des Délices, a French independent bookstore in Raleigh, NC. The book is also available on Kindle. Any edition will work.
