Le Book Club: The Girl Who Reads on the Métro
In this monthly Book Club, open to all levels of French, we will read books about French culture and history, or written by Francophone authors. In an effort to be accessible to Francophiles of all levels, the books chosen will be written/translated in English, but you may chose to read them in French if you’d like. Expect the discussion to be both in English and French, as a way for you to learn new vocabulary related to literature and to the French language and culture.
This month we are reading “The Girl Who Reads on the Métro” by Christine Féret-Fleury, and we will meet virtually on Thursday, January 21st at 5pm to discuss it.
Fans of The Little Paris Bookshop and The Elegance of the Hedgehog, will love this book. “La fille qui lisait dans le métro” is a modern fairytale about a French woman whose life is turned upside down when she meets a reclusive bookseller and his young daughter. Big-hearted, funny, and gloriously zany, The Girl Who Reads on the Métro is a delayed coming-of-age story about a young woman who dares to change her life, and a celebration of the power of books to unite us all.
This book club is led by Coucou’s Cultural Programs Assistant, Bhavana, and meets monthly, 5:00-6:30pm (CST).
Please note that our Book Club will meet online via Zoom for the time being.
Please note: our classes have limited capacity and often sell out fast, don't wait too long to book your spot!
