“There are only two things: love, all sorts of love, with pretty girls, and the music of New Orleans or Duke Ellington. Everything else ought to go, because everything else is ugly. ”

— Boris Vian

A staple of French Literature, Boris Vian is primarily remembered for his novels and his unique writing style, made of numerous made-up words, subtle wordplay and surrealistic plots. He was also a jazz musician, an inventor, and overall polymath.

Vian was famous for challenging societal conventions and tackling profound emotions and the complexity of good and evil through a heart-wrenching poetic style. His most famous work includes Froth on the Daydream (one of the few translated into English), Heartsnatcher, and I Spit on Your Graves.

In this two hour workshop led by our teacher Claire, we will dive into his work, learn more about his unique life story, and discover his one-of-a-kind voice and universe.
