In five fast-paced chapters, our Coucou teacher Elena will take you from Julius Caesar conquering Gaul and the Latin roots of the French language, to the rise of the French monarchy, Joan of Arc, the dazzling excess of Versailles under Louis XIV, the fury of the Revolution, and the towering legacies of Napoleon and Charles de Gaulle. Along the way, you’ll discover how each layer of French history left its mark on the culture, the identity, and the language you’re learning today.
No boring lectures, no memorizing dates – just the stories, the turning points, and the key ideas that make France France. By the end, you won’t just speak a little more French. You’ll understand where it comes from.

About your host:
Elena was born in Georgia (the country not the state!) and raised all around Europe: Germany, Ireland, France. She has a Master’s Degree in International & Business Law and currently works remotely for a Parisian start-up. Elena moved to NYC and joined Coucou in 2022. She loves learning languages, traveling, singing as well as the world of wine (specifically champagne since she comes from the Champagne region!).
