Level 4 is for intermediate students who can talk about the past and are ready to move into the future, conditional, and hypotheses.

• You can use the present and the main past tenses: passé composé, imparfait, and plus-que-parfait.
• You can tell a structured story about a past event.
• You can use object pronouns to connect ideas and avoid repetition.
• You want more range for possibilities, imagined situations, advice, and regrets.
• You’re comfortable spending more of class time in French.

Level 4 shifts the focus from describing what is or was to expressing what will, would, or could happen.

By the end of Level 4, you’ll be able to move beyond facts and talk about what will happen, what would happen, and what might have happened differently.

You’ll be able to:

• Talk about future plans, predictions, and long-term intentions
• Use the present and past conditional for wishes, advice, politeness, possibility, and regret
• Build the three main “if... then...” structures for future, present, and past hypotheses
• Talk about imagined, unreal, and alternative situations with a clear timeline
• Sustain longer discussions about possibilities, opinions, and what-if scenarios

You’ll have a clear system for separating real possibilities, imagined situations, and hindsight.
